GREEK CLARINET SONGS AND MELODIES
Aris Dinas- Voice, laouto
Stavros Kouskouridas- clarinet
Konstantinos Georgiou- percussion

Three Greek musicians present traditional music from Epirus, Thessalia and
other regions where the clarinet is the main instrument.
They have many years of experience and gave lots of concerts in Greece and
abroad, and they played regularly on Greek radio and tv.
With their music they continue a line of continental Greek traditional music
that has always been very strong and is still essential for marriages,
farewells and other festivities and rites of passage.

The clarinet-based music has a strong melancholic character and appeals to a profound feeling
of roots in the ground of origin, often regions with a high degree of emigration. For Greeks from these regions the urge to cry and dance is irresistible when hearing their music.

Famous jazz clarinet player Benny Goodman was flabbergasted when hearing top traditional musicians
like Tasos Halkias and Petros Loukas Halkias, playing in New York for their emigrated countrymen
in the middle of the 20th century. Petros Loukas Halkias obtained American citizenship only because
of the uniqueness of his music.
