Ως η πιο «πλούσια» δεξαμενή σκέψης για το 2017 με εξαιρετική δύναμη επηρεασμού αναδείχτηκε το Ινστιτούτο Brookings, ενώ στη δεύτερη θέση βρέθηκε το Chatham House του Ηνωμένου Βασιλείου. Στην τρίτη θέση κατετάγη το Γαλλικό Ινστιτούτο Διεθνών Σχέσεων (IFRI).

Την ίδια στιγμή, το Κέντρο Στρατηγικών και Διεθνών Σπουδών της Αμερικής (CSIS) αναδείχτηκε τέταρτο διεθνώς. Ακολουθεί το Carnegie Endowment για τη Διεθνή Ειρήνη, το Bruegel από Βέλγιο, η εταιρεία RAND, το Διεθνές Κέντρο Woodrow Wilson για μελετητές, το Fundacao Getulio Vargas και το Συμβούλιο Εξωτερικών Σχέσεων (CFR) της Αμερικής. Στη λίστα συμπεριλαμβάνεται και η Ελλάδα με το Ελληνικό Ίδρυμα Ευρωπαϊκής και Εξωτερικής Πολιτικής (ΕΛΙΑΜΕΠ).

Σύμφωνα με τις μετρήσεις που έγιναν από το Πανεπιστήμιο της Pennsylvania, η Αμερική έρχεται πρώτη στη μελέτη ποικίλων ζητημάτων συγκεντρώνοντας 1.835 «δεξαμενές σκέψης», το μεγαλύτερο αριθμό παγκοσμίως. Δεύτερη είναι η Κίνα με 435 και ακολουθεί το Ηνωμένο Βασίλειο με 288. Στην τέταρτη θέση είναι η Ινδία με 280 δεξαμενές σκέψης. Η συγκεκριμένη έκθεση αποτελεί τη μεγαλύτερη και πληρέστερη βάση δεδομένων αναφορικά με τις «δεξαμενές σκέψης» αποτελούμενη από περισσότερα από 6.500 Ινστιτούτα σε 179 χώρες αρχής γενομένης από το 1989.
