Ο “Open” διαγωνισμός στοχεύει στην αποκάλυψη εικόνων που παρουσιάζουν τον κόσμο γύρω μας, δίνοντας ταυτόχρονα την ευκαιρία σε εκκολαπτόμενους φωτογράφους, να αναδείξουν τη δουλειά τους, που υπό άλλες συνθήκες μπορεί να μην είχαν την ευκαιρία.

Φωτογράφοι όλων των βαθμίδων μπορούν να πάρουν μέρος στο διαγωνισμό, υποβάλλοντας μεμονωμένες εικόνες στις εξής κατηγορίες: Architecture, Culture, Creative, Motion, Landscape, Natural World & Wildlife, Portraiture, Still Life, Street Photography και Travel.

Παρακάτω  βρίσκονται οι νικητές κάθε κατηγορίας για τον 2020 Open Competition, ενώ στην ιστοσελίδα του World Photography Organization βρίσκονται οι λίστες με τους φιναλίστ όλων των κατηγοριών από όλο τον κόσμο.

Ο φωτορεπόρτερ Αλέξανδρος Μιχαηλίδης που ζει και εργάζεται στις Βρυξέλλες, διακρίθηκε στον φετινό διεθνή διαγωνισμό φωτογραφίας της Σιένας (SIPA Contest), στην κατηγορία της «φωτοειδησεογραφίας».  O έλληνας φωτογράφος απέσπασε το 3ο βραβείο, για την λήψη του κατά την διάρκεια των διαδηλώσεων των «Κίτρινων Γιλέκων» στην βελγική πρωτεύουσα, τον Δεκέμβριο του 2018.
Το πρώτο βραβείο απέσπασε ο ιταλός Alessio Paduano για την λήψη του στη Μεσόγειο, κατά την διάρκεια μιας διάσωσης μεταναστών από μέλη της ισπανικής ΜΚΟ, Proactiva Open Arms. Στην δεύτερη θέση, ο αμερικάνος Matt McClain, στην φωτογραφία του οποίου διακρίνεται ο γιος ενός θανόντα στρατιωτικού των αμερικανικών ειδικών δυνάμεων (που έχασε τη ζωή του κατά την διάρκεια άσκησης), μπροστά στο μνήμα του, στο Κοιμητήριο του Άρλινγκτον.

Description: Nineteen-month-old Hiba Nisar from the Kapran Village in Shopian, Kashmir. On November 25, 2018, while in her mother’s arms at home, she was hit in her right eye by pellets shot from an Indian officer’s pellet gun during an encounter between militants and security forces. Doctors at SMHS hospital in Srinagar are concerned she may have permanent vision loss in her right eye. Pellet-guns were introduced in Kashmir by the Indian police in 2010. In recent years, more than 6,000 people have lost their eyesight completely or partially after being struck by the pellets.

Right next to their home on a hilltop in the Balukhali camp a family has opened a small store. Ayoub Khan, 5, eats his dinner while his 10-year-old sister Sufira Begum keeps him company.

Description: Luis Theis is a young artist who was arrested on May 18th, 2016 during a protest against Nicolas Maduro’s government. He was accused of assaulting a female officer of the National Police who was trying to block the demonstrators in Caracas. After his capture, the Venezuelan artistic community reacted and turned “viral” the images of his violent arrest. Following a week of intense legal struggle Theis was freed. Like other rebels before him, Theis became an icon for Venezuelan youth.
